For Liste 2026, Noorain will present a new body of work developed over the past year, inspired by a moment of unexpected stillness during a hillside trek. After a fall, a brief shift in perception transformed the landscape: the sky appeared overturned, a branch resembled an outstretched hand, and small lights flickered at the edges of vision. That fleeting experience became the starting point for a series of paintings exploring gravity, suspension, memory, and imagination.
Conceived as an immersive environment, Suspended Ground invites visitors to slow down and engage with painting in a more intimate way. Alongside new works on canvas, the installation includes a painted artist’s book and a sculptural bookshelf that functions as both display and frame. Grounded in references to magical realism and 20th-century Surrealism, these works mark a shift in the artist’s practice toward three-dimensional form. Motifs that once existed solely within the paintings now emerge into space as carved wooden objects, furniture, and sculptural interventions, extending the logic of the painted world beyond the canvas.
In the installation, horse mounting blocks serve as benches from which visitors can view and handle the painted book. The blocks introduce a subtle sense of journey, balance, and elevation, echoing the work’s ongoing interest in the relationship between body, movement, and ground. Bringing together painting, sculpture, furniture, and artist books, Suspended Ground explores spaces that exist between stability and imbalance, between memory and invention. Images migrate between canvas and object, inviting viewers into a world where perception shifts, gravity loosens its grip, and the familiar becomes quietly strange.
