Come explore an example of the vibrant art movement – contemporary miniature or neo miniature emerging from Pakistan. Miniature is a centuries old art form rooted in the Mughal and wider Islamic world!

Did you know Rembrandt also did some Mughal miniature inspired drawings?

Imran Qureshi is a leading contemporary painter and is among the pioneers of the neo-miniature movement which is rooted in Pakistan. Trained at the National College of Arts, Lahore, by Ustad Bashir Ahmad, Qureshi is a miniature painter and a visual artist who artfully uses the centuries-old rules of miniature painting to convey contemporary contradictions and tensions between tradition and modernity.

Imran Qureshi’s work is part of important international collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Art Institute of Chicago; British Museum, London; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; and National Art Gallery, Islamabad. In 2017, he received the International Medal of Arts from the U.S. Department of State, and in 2021, the Government of Pakistan, honoured him with the prestigious Sitara-e-Imtiaz Presidential Award.
