On the 29th November there will be an introduction to the artist’s work by Nour Aslam and a walkthrough of the exhibition.
Imran Mir (1950-2014), the renowned Pakistani artist, sculptor, and designer, often defied conventional paths.
The contemplative nature of Mir’s work offers insight into how physics and the sonic are dynamically related. Much like theoretical essays or theses, his work elaborates on mathematics in general, and geometry in particular. Yet, for Mir, practicing art was sustenance, a getaway from the demands of daily life.
Although his work initially left art critics puzzled, he later earned recognition for his experiments with colour and form. He referred to his works as ‘Papers’ on modern art, almost theoretical treatises.
He co-founded the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Karachi and actively supported the establishment of Pakistan’s first Museum of Modern Art.
Throughout his life, Mir remained committed to constant evolution and change, leaving an indelible mark on the world of art, design, and philanthropy.
In recent years his work has been exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the Kuntsmuseum Gelsenkirchen and is currently on display in Doha as part of the exhibition ‘MANZAR: Art and Architecture of Pakistan’
