‘’My work has always revolved around the relationships, how they affect me and my soul.
Many years ago I came across the poetry of my late grandfather, which influenced me to write the poem. His poetry was about hopes about the next generation. He wanted to see an artist, a poet or anyone influenced by his work in the next generation. I began to express my desires and thoughts through my poems. Keeping the intricacies of miniature painting, I started writing those poems into the form of the waves and water. The water of the miniature painting always influenced me. I think it connects more with the poetry and the waves of the water.
In the recent past, my younger son did some scribbles on my work. The contrast which is created between my intricate lines and his clear-free scribbles influenced me to make this new work. Trained in the miniature intricacies and delicacies, it was very hard to accept these scribbles and drawings of my children into my work. But I started incorporating and doing experiments with their drawings and my work. Now, instead of taking a dedicated space for my work, I invite my children to work with me.
Keeping the intricacies of miniature in my mind, I use Rapedo and a fine pen on archival paper. And I turn my children’s scribbles and drawings into the text, which actually look like drawings of the children and scribbles. But when you go deep into the work, they are the poetry written into the form of that drawings.’’ – Sana Zaidi
