Maze of Justice

This piece, centered around my father’s study and writing table, represents a deeply personal exploration of legacy, authority, and the weight of justice. Following his sudden and harrowing departure, I began using his table—a place of concentration, contemplation, and creation of history.
The table is titled “Maze of Justice “ as a play on the Urdu word “maiz” (meaning “table”). This duality symbolizes the complex decisions made, decisions that often resemble a maze—filled with unexpected turns, ambiguity, and no clear way forward. The added weight of concrete embodies the burden of justice, a crushing responsibility that one shoulders with authority.
In creating this piece, I confronted the gravity of carrying not just my father’s legacy, but the inherited duty to uphold justice and balance. Through this work, I invite viewers to reflect on the profound responsibilities that often come with positions of power, the complexities within them, and the personal sacrifice entangled in the pursuit of justice.
This artwork is a part of the exhibition ‘Under the Sun’ which is the inaugural exhibition of the NCA 150 Years Celebrations & a group show consisting of artworks by the faculty of the National College of Arts.
