“How can I say that I have actually portrayed your pain?”

Join Adeela Suleman as she reflects on the ideas behind her work in Rising Voices: Contemporary Art from Asia, Australia and the Pacific and the challenge of representing violence through art.

Drawing on the traditions of South Asian miniature painting, Suleman combines painted ceramic plates and found meat cleavers with imagery inspired by landscapes, history and lived experience. Through these familiar objects, she explores the unsettling presence of violence in everyday life.
