For the second iteration of The Table, @baneenm takes us to Miani Sahib, the largest graveyard in the middle of Lahore.

For the last few months, Baneen has been following caretakers here, foraging the earth/ground for medicinal plants and herbs. Drawing our attention to this diverse but fragile ecosystem, and tracing the economy of these herbs/plants all the way to the markets, she witnesses the graveyard as a space that intertwines life and death, prompting reflection on our role in ecological balance and the regenerative power of nature.

This project is an extension of a photo essay created for VII Academy’s Select Countries in South Asia: program for narrative and documentary practice Level 1 seminar, led by Tanvi Mishra.
