– Chawkandi Art Gallery is pleased to present The Pattern of Pain and Love, a solo exhibition by Ramzan Jafri. Trained in the ancient vocabulary of miniature, Ramzan Jafri has spent the last 18 years evolving this tradition, blending classical techniques with contemporary themes and a personal lens.

Revisiting classical miniatures from the 17th century, he seeks to “illuminate them through” a unique viewpoint. In his richly detailed, multilayered works, Jafri even learns traditional bookbinding techniques from an Ustaad, creating pieces that form “a visual and symbolic bridge between the two worlds” of historical and contemporary, a journey his practice constantly negotiates. Torn fabric and gauze form a dialogue between material, history, and hope, a traditional Hazara motif, the Qab Tumar pattern gestures to his community and heritage.

In his own words, “Each piece is a fragment of my story—a record of the people I carry with me, the heritage I honor, and the artistic path I continue to walk.”
