As we continue to recognise innovation in contemporary South Asian art practices through The Asia Arts Game Changer Awards, we are fortunate to have the enthusiastic support of creative practitioners from across the subcontinent. For the upcoming edition of the awards, we are focusing on contemporary arts practices from Pakistan, and we’re so pleased to have the guidance of Zarmeene Shah (@zarmeene). Zarmeene is an independent curator (@karachi_curatorial), writer and academic. Swipe to hear her talk about her work!
Focusing on global contemporary art with specialist knowledge of the Global South, her research-based practice investigates ideas of land and territory, ecology and economy, with a recent focus on the call to planetarity and ecologies of care. Zarmeene has curated and been involved in the production of numerous solo and group exhibitions of modern and contemporary art institutionally and independently, in Pakistan and beyond. She has previously served as Assistant Director of the Mohatta Palace Museum, Curator-at-Large of the inaugural Karachi Biennale (KB17), and guest curator for the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver and most recently for Qatar Museums. She is currently Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies at the Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture, leading an interdisciplinary M.Phil degree focusing on practice as research.
