Articulate Studios, invites you to
‘4 by Four’, a group show curated by @quddusmirza
On Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Articulate studios, and will continue till Saturday, May 30, 2024, daily from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Works of art are bound to a space in multiple ways: to the artist’s studio, his/her environment, region, a display venue, a place of worship, a public building, an art museum, a collector’s residence, a shopping mall, a commercial plaza, a storage vault. Some, while being at one place, transcend from their immediate surroundings, for an eternal adobe in history, memories, documentaries, discussions, and social media sites.
Each new location, whether physical or virtual, transforms its appearance, content, and interpretation. But a powerful creative piece can sustain many modifications. Jorge Luis Borges, writing about a play by Shakespeare performed in Buenos Aires, comments that the translation was awful, the acting was terrible, lights were dysfunctional, stage was unsuited, and the backdrop was disastrous – yet Shakespeare came through!
The exhibition ‘4 by Four’, is a means to experience the works which can survive within the limitations of a physical space, and outside as well. Inside a specific time and beyond also. Attached to a certain context and independent too.
Four makers of visual arts, @manganhara , @amnailyas_sculpture , @fabbas9 , and @mahbubjokhio , with their unique visual vocabularies have produced their works for a room each at the Articulate Studios, Lahore. In their creative approaches they are responding to one particular spaceselected for/by them, or just being aware of its existence/dimensions/conditions. The premise of the exhibition revolves around locating links among artists’ personal practices after being installed at the premises. An attempt to discover differences at a closely connected site.
Also a form of celebrating coexistence of diversities within a fragmented society, of art, faith, ethnicity, language, class, nationality.
