【Join our online talk introducing the Zahoor ul Akhlaq Archive】
Co-presented by Asia Art Archive and Hauser & Wirth Institute, this event brings together art historians Samina Iqbal and Simone Wille to share their research from the Zahoor ul Akhlaq Archive, AAA’s forthcoming Research Collection.
Zahoor ul Akhlaq (1941–99) is one of the most influential artists and art educators from Pakistan. Comprising photographic materials, writings, correspondence, sketchbooks, and drawings, Akhlaq’s archive traces the artist’s development from his student years to his subsequent role as a teacher and administrator, showcasing how he combined modernist abstraction with traditions of calligraphy and miniature painting.
Iqbal’s presentation investigates how Akhlaq conveyed his artistic vision through public projects, while Wille establishes an understanding of how different geographies, landscapes, and architectural details informed Akhlaq’s practice.
