The Kiss, 2010 (Flash series)

With this series, I had somehow come to the idea of making 'a painting of a photograph of a photograph'. This was to address and think through measures of distance, both literally and formally. The act of taking a photograph of a photograph was made visible with the presence of flash, acknowledging the act of looking. A flash here smeared across a surface may have become a caress, a veil and/or a rupture.

I remember being thrilled as a student then, at the possibilities of thinking with and through form, by acknowledging such simple gestures and ways of looking. And also remember being surprised by what paint as a simple smear across a plain can do.
