‘A Fiddly Place’: Bani Abidi

In this talk, Bani Abidi reflects on key moments from her twenty-five-year artistic practice, considering how geography, political timelines, and lived experience have shaped her imagination and studio work. Moving across cities — from Karachi and Lahore to Delhi, Chicago, and Berlin — she reflects on the values, contradictions, and challenges of an itinerant sense of belonging and an internationally situated practice.

About the Artist:

Bani Abidi(@bani_abidi) is a multidisciplinary artist based between Karachi and Berlin. Working across video, photography, sound, and installation, her practice engages with politics, identity, and the absurdities of power. Blending documentary, performance, and fiction, her work transforms everyday scenes into sharp social critique. She has exhibited internationally, including at the Sharjah Art Foundation, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and Gropius Bau, Berlin.
