This body of work started from the Gora Kabristan on a very warm weekday in Karachi accompanied by @ayeshaaart_ & @humag.ul.
A lot of documentation was done under the scorching sun and a little reading about the history of this particular cemetery, while in awe of how far it extends showed how the place is slowly crumbling away with time and neglect. Piles of trash line the northern boundary and slowly a lot of the graves are being consumed by it.
The Glass paintings displayed in the photographs were painted directly from the Gora Kabristan. Most of them have no arms, cracks in their sculptural forms and a lot of them (that aren’t painted) were detached from the main body only to have been lost or destroyed with time.
These sculptures on top of the (almost) unrecognisable graves that were once made by extremely skilled craftsmen which seem to be decaying with each passing day. Nothing is being done to prevent this or work towards preservation.
