"Which histories are centered, and to what end, while others are suppressed and obscured? Jovita Alvares’s poetic provocations disrupt the dominance of exclusionary imperial and nationalistic narratives as she embraces the fragmentations and erasures within marginalized trajectories that are deeply entangled with and continue to shape communal coastal histories across land and sea, pre- and post-border formations. Through material engagements and ephemeral processes, Alvares acknowledges these absences while simultaneously asserting their presence, claiming their space within collective memory."
