For more than three decades, Shahzia Sikander has been reframing South Asian visual histories through a contemporary feminist perspective. Uniting nearly 100 artworks made over the course of her career, a major combined presentation by @shahzia.sikander is now on display aross both the Cincinnati Art Museum and Cleveland Museum of Art.
At @cincyartmuseum, the largest and most comprehensive presentation of the artist’s career to date explores Sikander’s role as an American artist, a Pakistani artist, a Muslim artist, a feminist artist, and—perhaps most significantly—a global citizen engaging with a disrupted historical narrative. Titled Collective Behavior, the exhibition premiered last year to international acclaim as a Collateral Event during the 60th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia. The exhibition continues until 4 May.
The @clevelandmuseumofart show focuses on Sikander’s art in relation to historical South Asian objects from the museum’s collection that have inspired her. The presentation continues until 8 June.
