In the words of curator Nusrat Khawaja, "Map-making is a physical representation of how we mentally situate ourselves in a spatial and temporal context. Maps assert the ascendancy of the known over the unknown. In art, the cartographic imagination covers many realms of reality in addition to geographic mapping.”
